A brotherhood was founded in Spain under the patronage of Our Lady of the Forsaken. The goal was to help the mentally ill, but it later extended its care to homeless and abandoned children as well as to other forsaken.
Three men approached the monastery offering to make a statue. Over three days no sounds were heard from their room and when the brothers forced the door open they found no one and only the beautiful statue. In the folds of Our Lady's mantle oare two small children, representing the first charity of the brothers. No trace could be found of the sculptors so it was concluded that they had been angels from heaven.
At this news many Valencians came to the Madonna and numerous favours were promptly dispensed. Over the years royalty and those grateful for favours have bestowed rich clothing and many jewels on the statue.
The most famous miracle concerned a criminal on route to his execution. While praying before the statue of Our Lady's hand holding the lilies was seen to move several times. The officials decided that such a miracle must indicate the man's innocence and he was set free.
"When all human help fails, it is imperative that we not despair. For normally in this extreme situation, the divine help of Mary comes."
- St. Bonaventure
"The inner life of another that is known to God alone becomes to a much less degree open to us through friendship. It partially fills the desire of our incomplete, lonely hearts for completeness in another. Friendship brings out the best in a person through forgetfulness of self." - St. Thomas Aquinas
Repeat the following Novena prayers every day for 9 consecutive days.
Begin the Novena on May 3rd
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, and sought thy intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired with this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother, to thee I come, before thee I stand sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate! despise not my petitions, but, in thy mercy, hear and answer me.
Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God! That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Let us pray
O God, who has deigned to bless us with the favor of venerating the Blessed Virgin Mary under the title of "Mother of the Forsaken", and has willed to bestow so much power on her intercession that no one should be abandoned
who has recourse to her motherly help! Grant we beseech you to us, your servants, the privilege that we all, who put ourselves under the protection
of so exalted a Mother, may never be forsaken by your Divine Mercy, Through Christ, Our Lord. Amen.
(Indulgence, 300 days, each time. Plenary, once a month, on the usual conditions.)
[Note: In the heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary, there is a special spot that is sensitive to the needs of the mentally ill, the abused, abandonned and
homeless children, thosewho are bullied at school, the forgotten elderly, the blind, the people, no matter their age and predicament, who are abandonned
or mistreated by society. That also includes the clergy members who have fallen from grace. She wishes for ALL souls to be saved. As caring and loving Catholics, we are called to pray for them.]
