I heard Fr. Raphael is in the States. Some say he is going around trying to promote his order. Then I hear he aligned with John Pfeiffer's group undermining the OLMC missions. Does anyone know what is going on? Here's what it becoming more known in resistance circles - my summarizing: At the time of John Pfeiffer's urging people to leave OLMC (in December 2017) an alternate priest was essentially needed. Fr. Rafael, long story short, agreed to be that priest for those people who wanted to leave OLMC. The issue with this scenario was the way Fr. Rafael agreed to be the ministering priest for those people. It was incredibly similar (almost carbon copy) to how then-Fr. Zendejas took over an OLMC chapel in fall of 2014, that is, it was done in secrecy and by back room deals. The background information that is necessary to understanding the secrecy in this situation is that Frs. Pfeiffer and Hewko have been trying to talk and communicate with Fr. Rafael since December. Their phone calls and emails went unanswered. They flew to Mexico (late December?) to see Fr. Rafael, letting him know well ahead of time when they would be there. He was unavailable when the Fathers arrived in Mexico. This behavior of Fr. Rafael's was a change. Before this the three priests were very friendly. Fr. Rafael was at the OLMC Doctrinal Conferences in 2017, his sermons were posted on the same YouTube channel that posts all the OLMC sermons, his newsletters were promoted by the OLMC Fathers, etc. It is my understanding that OLMC made financial contributions to Fr. Rafael over the years as well. Approximately three weeks after the OLMC priests flew to Mexico to meet with him but he refused, Fr. Rafael then flew to the US. He met with John Pfeiffer (in Chicago) and a few others (Minnesota and Wisconsin and later, New Hampshire). One can only assume he was made the same 'deal' that was offered to Fr. Hewko in December by John Pfeiffer. At that time, Fr. Hewko was offered a home and a car, etc. to stay in Chicago and be John Pfeiffer's (and the others) chaplain. Fr. Hewko firmly refused. He knew that if he took such a deal, he would essentially be at the whim of these laypeople in terms of his support. And more importantly, he knew John Pfeiffer's issues were not only groundless but conflated. Fr. Rafael never let Frs. Pfeiffer and Hewko know that he was coming to the US and into their chapels, despite their trying repeatedly to communicate with and meet him. He avoided and shunned them. One can only assume this behavior of Fr. Rafael's is because he sided with John Pfeiffer and John Pfeiffer's issues with OLMC. Justice and fairness would have demanded that if Fr. Rafael had any concerns over what John Pfeiffer was telling him about OLMC, Fr.Rafael would have sought and encouraged open communication with those priests. But that did not happen. So we have heard that Fr. Rafael is 'touring the US for chapels that are disgruntled with OLMC'. But again, this is all being done in secrecy. In some chapels, these issues surrounding Fr. Rafael's visit are being shrouded and his visit is being presented as a mission to discuss the Benedictine oblates. OLMC chapel members are being invited to Fr. Rafael's Masses without explaining that he is visiting, not as a supporting priest of OLMC, but as one who would take over the chapel if the people wanted him to. One can't help but think with these efforts at secrecy and misrepresentation, that this is not how Our Lord acted. Nothing was done in secrecy. Everything Our Lord did was in the open.

Do traditional Catholics forget the devil never sleeps? Sounds like Fr. Raphael has fallen for the same old trick offered in the past, the you take care of me, I'll take care of you deal. Except that last time we heard those words they were from Fr. Zendejas to the Sparta N. Jersey laity. This time it's the laity bribing a priest. What a mess this poor priest gotten himself into. I suggest people pray for Fr. Raphael to wake up and see the reality that this is a very old trick right from the devil's bag of tricks.

Yes, it is the way Fr. Raphael is going about it, whether by good intention or not, trying to grow his monastery or make a personality for himself...he allowed himself to be caught up, as a priest, without discernment in the Chicago Inquisition. It is not forthright. Realizing Fr. Raphael is weak going back and forth as he did in and out of the false resistance, he needs to be given conviction like the faux-pas to see serving human ambition for a "spiritual" end only reduces both to ashes (Ash Wednesday). Fr. Raphael's visit has been secret only to a few in the know within John Pfeiffer's new circle: until we found out. John Pfeiffer also started calling around to OLMC missions portraying (in contradiction) Fr. Raphael wants to promote his third order in guise OLMC knows about it, and, Fr. Raphael will serve them if they are disgruntled with OLMC. OLMC didn't know anything about this usa trip nor any possible coordination for the missions so not to duplicate on the same weekend. Fr. Rafael never gave them a courtesy call to let them know what his plans or intentions were...in spite of the fathers repeatedly emailing and calling him. Hence the fathers own fruition to visit him in Minnesota. Fr. Raphael's public events these past weeks caused a stir though John Pfeiffer's new group dividing more than uniting giving many to interpret different versions...all confusing. Fr. Raphael appears to have his motive stemmed from his recent Dec. 2017 Newsletter wanting to promote a third order Benedictine for spiritual and financial support. However, to gain a grain is not by stealth or hand in another's basket. In addition, and contrary to a recent poster, Fr. Raphael did NOT send or submit anything of a "correctio filialis" to the Fathers. We asked Fr. Pfeiffer, he said: Obviously we need to know the facts, but it is evident in the fathers trip to him and the consequential digging in, Fr.R has made himself with a middle weak position. And in exchange, they give him money... These people can do what they want but when they/anyone drags the House of God in the mud and a deformed sense of purity, we have to defend it, than to allow it to be normalized; regardless of personalities who want something else. Seems that is what this whole Church crisis is about...personalities want something for themselves and piggy back Christ taking souls with them. Like all division, the weak positions look for a roman collar to subsidize their wrong doing and endorse it in guise of religion. However, Pope Felix said : "Not to oppose error is to approve it; and not to defend truth is to suppress it; and indeed to neglect to confound evil men, when we can do it, is no less a sin than to encourage them." - Pope St. Felix III

In addition, and contrary to a recent poster, Fr. Raphael did NOT send or submit anything of a "correctio filialis" to the Fathers. We asked Fr. Pfeiffer, he said: The recent post Machabees quotes above contained these words about the alleged letter of correction: And yet, this correctio filialis letter was never sent. Fr. Hewko also confirmed that such a letter was never sent to either Fr. Pfeiffer or himself. So how did this rumor and falsehood start? Who claimed Fr. Rafael sent such a letter but in reality did not? And not only was such a letter never sent, but the falsehood extends itself and states that it was never answered. The poster who wrote about this letter of Fr. Rafael was himself deceived. He was lied to. But since we now know this is not reality, what do we know is reality? What really happened is that Frs. Pfeiffer and Hewko's attempts to communicate with Fr. Rafael by phone or email went unanswered. They then flew to Mexico to speak with Fr. Rafael. He was apparently deliberately unavailable. Their calls and emails continue to go unanswered. Frs. Pfeiffer and Hewko then learn Fr. Rafael is in the US, at their chapels. They make a 16 hour one-way drive to meet with him in Minnesota. He disdains their words. And as Machabees quotes Fr. Pfeiffer above, he and Fr. Hewko were the ones making a 'correction' to Fr. Rafael. So, back to our original question, who claimed Fr. Rafael sent such a letter but in reality did not? We may never know. But what we do know is that Fr. Rafael has implied that he would start a monastery on at least two continents, spanning at least three countries. But how is this possible for a monastery that only has one priest (Fr. Rafael) and one brother? All this has the appearance of Fr. Rafael making promises he cannot keep. God grant we are mistaken and things are not as deceitful as they appear.

So Fr. Rafael (Arizaga) is claimed by the false resistance as one of their own?
That is very interesting as CI is very pro-Bishop Williamson. They don’t usually support priests who are not in favor of Bishop Williamson, as Fr. Rafael did not in the past. Perhaps this has changed? Hence the now support of Fr. Rafael?

His full name is Fr. Rafael Arízaga, OSB. In English speaking countries he is more know as Fr. Raphael.
Regarding Bishop Williamson and the other three bishops, there is no question (at this time), Fr. Raphael does not support what they are doing. He has written many Newsletters stating this.
As far as the rest of the faux-pas, they always try to exploit any situation to make themselves look pristine and open to trad-ecumenism as possible -- except for the perennial position of ABL continued in OLMC. Sounds familiar with the new order ecumenism -- they accept everyone except the perennial position of ABL holding the uncompromised faith.
Birds of a feather...

This reminds me of an awesome sermon. How do you kill a Catholic? Feed him poison = feed him lies. "How does the devil destroy souls? Through lies." sermon and transcript link

Someone pointed out that CI post was made on Jan. 14, 2018. A month ago. Didn't someone say the OLMC fathers went to see him a couple weeks ago in Minnesota? That would mean Fr. Rafael did his covert switch BEFORE he talked to the fathers. How do you get objective information from a one sided source? Not looking good.

As we are always kindly reminded in the Recusant:
...and in the meantime, don’t forget to pray for priests!
O Almighty and Eternal God, look upon the Face of Thy Christ, and for love of Him Who is the eternal High-priest, have pity on Thy priests. Remember, O most compassionate God, that they are but weak and frail human beings. Stir up in them the grace of their vocation which is in them by the imposition of the Bishop's hands. Keep them close to Thee, lest the enemy prevail against them, so that they may never do anything in the slightest degree unworthy of their sublime vocation.
O Jesus, I pray Thee for Thy faithful and fervent priests; for Thy unfaithful and tepid priests; for Thy priests laboring at home or abroad in distant mission fields; for Thy tempted priests; for Thy lonely and desolate priests; for Thy young priests; for Thy aged priests; for Thy sick priests; for Thy dying priests; for the souls of Thy priests in Purgatory.
But above all I commend to Thee the priests dearest to me: the priest who baptized me; the priests at whose Masses I assisted and who gave me Thy Body and Blood in Holy Communion; the priests who taught and instructed or helped me and encouraged me; all the priests to whom I am indebted in any other way, particularly (a priest’s name here). O Jesus, keep them all close to Thy heart, and bless them abundantly in time and in eternity. Amen.
Mary, Queen of the clergy, pray for us; obtain for us many and holy priests. Amen.

Christian,
To compare us with Cathinfo is a bit conflated especially since you offer no proof or support for such a statement.
I agree cathinfo has become a dirty word, one that is synonymous with a 'cesspool' as Fr. Hewko calls it. However, The Catacombs hardly seems to have merited such name-calling. While we harbor no ill will when subjected to unsubstantiated ad hominem attacks, it remains that unless you can reasonably offer something concrete to support such a statement, your comment reflects the dread you dislike. Does it not?
God bless, Admin
