Standard Bearers

What if...
What if Bishop Fellay didn't capitulate to Rome and sign the Doctrinal Declaration? What if in the hopes of making itself more attractive to the 'world' by making liberal concession after liberal concession, the SSPX stayed true to tradition and its founding principles? What if it never 'rebranded' itself?
The SSPX would still be strong and thriving. It would have continued as a beacon of truth and faith. Souls would have continued to flock to it. It would have continued to have been a force to be reckoned with in terms of its firm adherence to the Faith and Tradition.
Instead, it has become mush. One good poke and the rot shows through. In its efforts to appease and placate the Roman authorities, the SSPX has become the equivalent of a woman wearing pants during the week and a skirt at Sunday Mass. Just enough tradition to keep up appearances but the reality is it has already turned its heart to the world.
What if...
What if Bishop Williamson led as a bishop of the resistance should? What if he collected all the scattered bishops, priests, and laity under the true banner of the Faith, as Archbishop Lefebvre had done, once the perfidy of Bishop Fellay became apparent?
How many priests and laity have stayed within the SSPX based on Bishop Williamson's advice and guidance? Would not the ranks of the resistance have swelled if Bishop Williamson had truly acted as a true son of Archbishop Lefebvre and a true son of the Apostles - a true shepard - and gathered his flock to safety.
But this has not happened. For in truth, what do they resist when their leaders encourage people to stay in the very place (the SSPX) that they are supposed to be resisting? Is this another version of "convert from within"? Do they not decry that very approach that the SSPX has taken? Yet the false resistance is apparently doing the same in a smaller microcosm? They tell laity, and more importantly the priests, to remain within the SSPX... to supposedly convert it from within? If in truth, that is the point...we are giving them the benefit of the doubt that their intentions have some effort at doing good. We don't really know why Bishop Williamson has told all those priests and bishops to stay within the Society.
And what of those bishops consecrated by Bishop Williamson? Do they take up the standard of the Faith as the Archbishop did? Sadly, they do not do so either. They have taken up the Standard of Bishop Williamson. Bishop Aquinas summed their position perfectly when he wrote:
So we now see how the false resistance under Bishop Williamson is mush. For it too is more concerned with impressing Bishop Williamson than it is with defending the true faith.
Where are the Standard Bearers? Where are those Bishops and Priests who are supposed to be the one's out in front of this battle for our Faith and our God?
We all know we are in a battle, a very old one. One that only ends at the end of the world.
Those who should be the standard bearers of the Faith have fallen. There is not one bishop who has taken up the Standard of Christ and reminded the people, In Hoc Signo Vinces, In This Sign You Shall Conquer.
Rather we have Bishop Fellay more concerned about impressing the Romans. And Bishop Williamson more concerned with Wagner, Shakespeare, and the arts.
But God is not mocked. And we know as long as we are faithful, despite the leaders not being so, we shall win the ultimate Victory.

Priests who disagree with or criticise Bishop Williamson should not be received and the faithful should not go to their Mass. What is a standard bearer's role in a battle?
The purpose of a standard bearer was to give the unit's member a visual signal as to where the unit was. If in the course of a fight, you were separated from your unit, one looked around until you saw the standard and then tried to get back close to it. The standard bearer normally was in close proximity to the unit leader. When the standard 'fell', the unit members did not have a visual point to rally around or return and the possibility that the leader had fallen was great. Loss of a standard in battle was considered to be one of the worst things to happen - the Honor of the unit was lost. Link
