Cor Mariae still confusing Archbishop Lefebvre with Bp. Williamson
Cor Mariae seems to be once again confusing the admonitions of Bishop Williamson with those of Archbishop Lefebvre. In a recent op-ed, there is a particular section that stands out and causes one to wince with pain. Anyone who has actually read the many, widely-available works of the Archbishop know that the following statement is blatantly incorrect:
... such it was when Archbishop Lefebvre established the SSPX primarily urging younger priests to stay in their parishes and fight modernist Archbishops in their own parishes protecting the flock, at the same time establishing mission centres throughout the world. [emphasis in the original]
Archbishop Lefebvre did not advise priests to remain within the Conciliar Church. Notice the Admin of Cor Mariae offers no quotes, no context for such a statement. The TRUTH is that the Archbishop spoke much to the CONTRARY, so much so that it is embarrassing for the Admin of a traditional Catholic site to so terribly and irresponsibly misrepresent that position of the Archbishop.
From the Archbishop's own words:
We see that right in the very very beginning, these seminarians knew that they would lose their traditional training in their local conciliar dioceses. They asked, in 1970, the Archbishop to help them form a pious union, uniting these seminarians and future priests with the express permission of Bishop Charriere.
However, these young men [in the seminary] were ardent spirits eager to become good priests, and we thought the matter out. They themselves suggested that I should band them together in an association, a brotherhood, for, said they: “On leaving the seminary, where we have been well trained, and returning to our dioceses, are we not in danger of losing the result of our training? We should like to go on working together as a team, just as we do today.” We thought it over and I went to see Bishop Charriere with the request that, given the occasion, he sign a decree of foundation for a “Brotherhood” uniting these seminarians and future priests. Bishop Charriere encouraged me, so I drew up the statutes for the Brotherhood and took them to him in June, 1970. After studying them, Bishop Charriere, on the first of November, 1970, signed the decree for the establishment of the “Priestly Society of Saint Pius X,” approving its statutes. (Priests for Tomorrow, Talk given at Paris, 1973, from A BISHOP SPEAKS. 2ND ed. KANSAS CITY: ANGELUS PRESS, 2007: Priests for Tomorrow March 1973.pdf (81.76 KB))
Quickly, very quickly, it became apparent to all with an 'eye to see and an ear to hear' that traditional priests were not wanted, that the Conciliar Church was finding ways to remove them left and right. There was no home for them in the Conciliar Church. They were being forced to say the new mass or at least pay some kind of obeisance to the Conciliar Church, even if only by their imposed silence against its errors. Archbishop Lefebvre knew that Vatican II was an attack against Our Lord Jesus Christ and His Church, and by extension, the ministers and priests of His Church. As a good shepard of his flock, the Archbishop did all he could to protect the priests.
Do these sound like the words of the Archbishop sending priests back to their dioceses after forming them in Tradition?:
“The consequences of this state of mind or spirit spread within the Church, inside the Church, are deplorable, and are ruining and sapping the spiritual vitality of the Church. In conscience, all we can do is turn priests and faithful away from using the Novus Ordo Missae if we wish that the complete and whole Catholic Faith remains still living.” (Letter to John Paul II, April 5, 1983 - Archbishop Lefebvre, Conference #1, St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary, April 24, 1983)
But however it may be, we are convinced of this, it is they who are wrong, who have changed course, who have broken with the Tradition of the Church, who have rushed into novelties, we are convinced of this. That is why we do not rejoin them and why we cannot work with them; we cannot collaborate with the people who depart from the spirit of the Church, from the Tradition of the Church.” (Conference, December 13, 1984)
Do not be afraid, otherwise you will do as, for instance, the Catholics in England did when they passed to Anglicanism. They followed their priests, they followed their bishops, and they became Anglicans, they became heretics, they went out of the Catholic Church. If you also follow your [conciliar] progressive priests, if you follow your progressive bishops, you shall become progressive and that is no longer Catholic. This is a new error, a new heresy. Let us remain Catholic! (Conference of Archbishop Lefebvre at Campbell, California, January 5, 1986)
“I said to him [Cardinal Ratzinger] ‘Even if you grant us a bishop, even if you grant us some autonomy from the bishops, even if you grant us the 1962 Liturgy, even if you allow us to continue running our seminaries in the manner we are doing it right now—we cannot work together! It is impossible! Impossible! Because we are working in diametrically opposing directions. You are working to de-Christianize society, the human person and the Church, and we are working to Christianize them. We cannot get along together!’ (Marcel Lefebvre, Bp. Tissier de Mallerais, p. 548)
The adulterous union of the Church and the [French]Revolution is cemented by “dialogue.” Our Lord said “Go, teach all nations and convert them.” He did not say “Hold dialogue with them but don't try to convert them.”- [This mentality of 'convert from within' is what the Cor Mariae Admin tries to falsely attribute to the Archbishop, but hear what he really advises:] Truth and error are incompatible; to dialogue with error is to put God and the devil on the same footing. This is what the Popes have always repeated and what was easy for Christians to understand because it is also a matter of common sense. www.sspxasia.com/Documents/Archbishop-Lefebvre/OpenLetterToConfusedCatholics/Chapter-15.htm

“We have never wished to belong to this system which calls itself the Conciliar Church, and defines itself with the Novus Ordo Missæ, an ecumenism which leads to indifferentism and the laicization of all society. Yes, we have no part, nullam partem habemus, with the pantheon of the religions of Assisi; our own excommunication by a decree of Your Eminence or of another Roman Congregation would only be the irrefutable proof of this. We ask for nothing better than to be declared out of communion with this adulterous spirit which has been blowing in the Church for the last 25 years; we ask for nothing better than to be declared outside of this impious communion of the ungodly.” (Open Letter to Cardinal Gantin, July 6, 1988)
“… this [new] rite is bad! Is bad, is bad. And the reason why this rite is bad in itself, is because it is poisoned. It is a poisoned rite! Mr. Salleron says it very well, here: "It is not a choice between two rites that could be good. It is a choice between a Catholic Rite and a rite that is practically a neighbor to Protestantism,” and thus, which attacks our Faith, the Catholic Faith! So, it is out of the question to encourage people to go to Mass in the new rite, because slowly, even without realizing it, they end up ecumenist! It’s strange, but it's like that. It is a fact. Then, ask them questions on ecumenism, on what they think of the relations with other religions and you will see! They are all ecumenist. For the priest himself, the fact of saying this mass and celebrating it in a constant manner, even without thinking about anything, about its origin, or why it was made, turns him and the people who assist at it ecumenist.” (Conference, April 11, 1990)

“What could be clearer? We must henceforth obey and be faithful to the Conciliar Church, no longer to the Catholic Church. Right there is our whole problem: we are suspended a divinis by the Conciliar Church, the Conciliar Church, to which we have no wish to belong! That Conciliar Church is a schismatic church because it breaks with the Catholic Church that has always been. It has its new dogmas, its new priesthood, its new institutions, its new worship… The Church that affirms such errors is at once schismatic and heretical. This Conciliar Church is, therefore, not Catholic. To whatever extent Pope, Bishops, priests, or the faithful adhere to this new church, they separate themselves from the Catholic Church.” (Archbishop Lefebvre, Reflections on his suspension a divinis, July 29, 1976)
For the sake of brevity, we have only included a few of the Archbishop's words on the dangers of the Conciliar Church, which 'defines itself with the Novus Ordo Missae'. Sadly, the Admin of Cor Mariae has demonstrated that they have not actually read the Archbishop's words, or at least not very much of his works, except for a few quotes here and there.
We would heartily and sincerely prefer to assume this is the case: that this error is done out of ignorance, rather than out of a deliberate attempt to falsely misrepresent and falsify the teachings of Archbishop Lefebvre. He was a true shepard. As a shepard leads his flock to good pasture and defends them against the wolves, so with Archbishop Lefebvre. He started a seminary and the SSPX for the formation of good, traditional priests who would defend the true Catholic Faith and protect it against those who were working to destroy It.
If, as the Admin of Cor Mariae proffers, that the Archbishop "established the SSPX primarily urging younger priests to stay in their parishes and fight modernist Archbishops in their own parishes" then his last 22 years of life, from 1970-1992, would have been superfluous. If the plan was to ordain traditional priests and then place them in the Conciliar Church, he never would have had to consecrate bishops, he never would have had to risk an illegal excommunication, etc. His whole life would have been different if he really preached what the Admin of Cor Mariae is suggesting. What a besmirching of his life and work! The Conciliar Church doesn't even stoop to misquoting him so terribly. They at least give him the dignity of maligning him for what he DID do, not what he DIDN'T.
Sadly, this is the second time in just a few months, members on The Catacombs have had to speak in defense of Archbishop Lefebvre about this same issue, from the same website - here and here.

Going back to our original point, which echoes what was already said here on this forum, this idea that priests can/should remain in the Conciliar Church is an idea promoted by Bishop Williamson, not Archbishop Lefebvre. Bishop Williamson has said the following:
“I do not say to everybody inside the Novus Ordo, priests and laity, I don’t say: ‘You’ve got to get out!’” (Bp. Williamson, conference in St. Catherine’s, Ontario, Canada, 5th November 2014) cor-mariae.com/index.php?threads/archived-list-of-b-williamsons-deconstruction-of-catholic-faith.6045/

"Stay away from the Novus Ordo, but exceptionally, if you're watching and praying, even there you may find the grace of God. If you do, make use of it in order to sanctify your soul." (Bishop Williamson, conference in Mahopac NY (usa), June 2015) cor-mariae.com/index.php?threads/archived-list-of-b-williamsons-deconstruction-of-catholic-faith.6045/
"N.O. priests are nourishing and building the faith in their N.O. parish." cor-mariae.com/index.php?threads/archived-list-of-b-williamsons-deconstruction-of-catholic-faith.6045/
"The new religion, is false, it's dangerous and it strangles grace. And it's helping many people to lose the faith. At the same time there are still cases where it's been, it can be used and is used still to build the faith." St. Thomas Aquinas tells us that, "Against a fact, there is no argument." We continue to pray for those at Cor Mariae, who in their quest to rewrite and re-narrate particular events of the last several decades to more fully prop up their new path, are willing to sacrifice the truth.
