Normalization of Deviance

For much of the business world, Normalization of Deviance is a costly experience. But what is it when it is in religion?
Normalization of Deviance is defined as: “The gradual process through which unacceptable practice or standards become acceptable and normalized, as a result, it becomes the norm and social norm for the organization.”
When applied to a human society, which revolutions like to do, social Normalization of Deviance means that people within a society become so much accustomed to a deviant behavior, they do not consider it as deviant any longer and normalize it. Despite the fact they see the disastrous effects, they defer it as others "abusing the norm". An example being contraception -a classical Normalization of Deviation- letting error be the virtue and any who go further than that norm with an abortion is wrong and abusive. As if contraception is not a form deviation...and one of abortion itself.
So many make Normalization of Deviance as a matter of justification how one perceives it: based on the law of self than on the Law of God.
All new start-up religions do Normalization of Deviance building with hodge-podge remnants of others to create a claim of "customs and heritage".
Catholics and converts to Catholicism do this Normalization of Deviance when they are half-hearted wishing a life for themselves than for living for God. They eventually claim their prior self or foreign upbringing (coming from another religion or worldly culture), often referred to as needing to convert what is in one's closet or the baggage needing to convert, they begin to call it all "Catholic" setting in a "culture and a norm" within their lives and family.
How did the present SSPX administration make Normalized Deviance a part of their new thinking?
As Catholics not wanting to compromise, we see this Normalization of Deviance as a signal that there are greater endemic problems within the members of the SSPX and its new policies than as the organization as a whole.
Let's draw out how Normalization of Deviation happens:
1. First is by taking Shortcuts. Shortcuts from proper disciplines and protocol built in the organization and one trying to justify a new behavior in conditions of perhaps: stress and consequence, changing conditions, prestige of office, and time compression to make events happen sooner than later. Some may feel a sense of urgency and this can cause us to want to take a shortcut from normal practices.
We hear this sense of urgency from the SSPX superiors telling us (here and here) we are "irregular" and need to reconcile with [conciliar] rome or we will become "sedevacantists or schismatics".
2. Then there is a Rationalization trying to justify one is with urgency
and a feeling of pressure to perform an act or acts quickly -- we can shortcut our norms and practices. Some even go as far as to rationalize that we SHOULD shortcut
our norms and practices when faced with conditions that are urgent.
This too has happened with the SSPX administration telling us we need to make a practical solution before a doctrinal solution.
3. The Reward. Sadly, when we take shortcuts and get away with them, we are, in a sense, being rewarded for taking the shortcuts. The brain remembers the path to successful outcomes and if that path involved shortcuts, the brain may compel us to take the shortcuts again because it’s a faster (and perhaps even thought to be a more efficient) way to the successful outcome.
We see this again in the maneuvers with the SSPX administration making provisions with the traditional sacraments giving way to update them for conciliar assignment (confessions, marriages, ordinations...). Going through the modern Diocesan hierarchy is a "smoother" transition to arrive at the goal with the Vatican hierarchy.
However, we know our alleged successes can set us up for a fall. Once we get an ample supply of previous successes under our belts while taking shortcuts, we can let our guard down to the guide posts and Statues in place to correct us, that we now think they are in the way and overkill. So a wholesale change comes into effect to change the whole.
This too is being done with Bishop Fellay's public announcements setting a complete change of the SSPX into a new structure, a "Super diocese".
4. Urgency. We return to this as a motivating factor to continue with Normalization of Deviance.
This continues in the five years within the sspx-civil war. It is the main thrust of behavior in the SSPX administration to normalize even if it means -- to "appear" wrong.
5. Normalization happens. The Urgency and forthwith rationalization of our needs is reinforced to become the new standard of behavior -- not to go back. It becomes the new “normal”. Once this happens on a large scale, and implemented in formation, no one within the organization is able to see the behavior as something different -- as it now seems normal.
The SSPX administration did this by changing their policy within the seminaries to be a part of the incoming formation and forced compliance in the Priories and Schools.
6. Deviance. It is easy to get drawn into deviance for those in life and those in leadership positions. We operate so often under conditions of stress, consequence, time compression and changing conditions that taking paths to expedite perceived outcomes can become, in itself, normal when others around you take the same path and encourage you.
This has become a raise of eye moment talking with the neo-sspx superiors and its people when trying to remind them of their former selves. They become agitated and angry while justifying their new identity as the only thing that is Catholic -- and we are disobedient.
7. The Drift into Failure. Over time, deviant behavior can become the norm. Even grossly deviant behavior – the kind of behavior that would seem to be grossly outside the bounds of Catholic morality – can become the norm. This drift into failure can be slow, sometimes taking years or even decades for the new standard to become entrenched.
Here again the SSPX Administration has drifted into moral decadence shown in their missions favoring human endeavors and activities more important and inspiring to accommodate the novus ordo crowds coming in than the provisions of God and his guidlines, the new sspx lax of hiring practices for worldly teachers in their Schools, and priests hanging out doing worldly enterprises.
When doctrine goes; morals go.
8. On the Defense. The organizations that are drifting toward failure often cannot see it anymore. They are deep in their denial that anything is wrong and defiantly defend their methods as best practices. They can even defend their close calls, near misses and casualty events by rationalizing this as a dangerous profession and some people are just going to get hurt and fall away sometimes.
The SSPX Administration is not only on a platform of defense, they are vigilant to expel anyone who is out of line to their agenda. Their SSPX Prior in Florida said in 2013 -"If we do not become normalized with [conciliar] Rome, it is a mortal sin!" Imagine that...a mortal sin!
Normalization of Deviance happens in business and it happens all throughout society.
So incremental deviances whether in a soul or in an organization is death -- not a 'surprise’.
Our Lord taught us to have "prayer and vigilance", something of which Simon Peter did not do when he fell. It was only after when he learned the hard way, and near damnation away from his Redeemer, he took it seriously not to go off course from the Norm of God.
So there are Catholic lessons:
Which offers the next question, if one says they love God, where are the tears of St. Peter to change the Normalization of Deviance in ones life?
No person or the new-sspx can endure when deviant from God.

So there are Catholic lessons:
- Everyone is vulnerable.
- We’re all in this valley of tears together. The actions or inactions of a single individual or superior can endanger everyone when charity to correct is lost.
- Keep the Faith above all men and personalities
- Maintain "prayer and vigilance".
- Falling has no memory when their is no conviction.
