In Mexico some were unhappy with the many conversions since the miracle of Guadalupe, especially those who profited from the old rituals. One man hated the advancements the bishop and Church were making and decided to kill the bishop. He watched how he kissed the crucifix before beginning Mass each day and placed poison on the feet of Our Lord on the crucifix. When the bishop went to kiss Our Lord's feet at morning Mass, Our Lord raised His legs out of reach thus saving the bishop. Instead, the poison turned the statue black.
"The inner life of another that is known to God alone becomes to a much less degree open to us through friendship. It partially fills the desire of our incomplete, lonely hearts for completeness in another. Friendship brings out the best in a person through forgetfulness of self." - St. Thomas Aquinas
