St. Caesarius of Arles:
"To Almighty God alone belongs the knowledge of future things, and the saving milk of inspired prophecy comes only from this God, Who is both tender and powerful. Therefore, says the Apostle, do not despise prophecy. But as we move and live, the present time, this tireless pest, is absorbing us. Ignorant of the future and very short-sighted, we consume in vain the so limited course of our existence. Woe to him who does not think of building an eternal dwelling in his heart! The Lord has reflected, and He has fulfilled all that He has announced. For Thou, O Lord, art the only high and mighty One Who is truthful and true, and the fruitful Creator of all things. Through the succession of innumerable years that will accumulate with a pressing impetuosity until the Last Judgment, like the waves of the sea on the sand of the shore, how many grievous events will come to pass!"
