Here is the February 2018 Cor Unum. What worldliness! Bishop Fellay is very concerned about the “public image” that the SSPX puts out (Archbishop Lefebvre wasn’t!).
Also, note the annual (biannual? every few months?) explanation that is used to “string along” SSPXers year after year: “The conjunction of this step backwards and developments … invite us to be even more reserved in our relations.” So they have to keep negotiating and negotiating and negotiating and negotiating, slowly slipping in to the Conciliar Church at the same time.
There is also this curious statement at the beginning of the letter: [the change in presentation] …”is in fact only the partial realization of a project much more extensive and already matured since several years.” It makes you wonder what else is around the corner …

Dear Members of the Priestly Society of Saint Pius X,
You are holding in your hands a new presentation of Cor Unum. The content and the various headings which compose it have been preserved, it is thus only a change of presentation. It is in fact only the partial realization of a project much more extensive and already matured since several years; the modern term designating this change is "branding". Unfortunately, some have taken advantage of this term to completely distort the end pursued by ourselves. And that's why we feel we need to explain it briefly.
The term refers to a set of distinctive points that a company uses to offer a unique and representative image of itself, as much as possible. Branding is brand image. And it is quite normal that it is found explicitly on all that concerns the Society in a public way.
We are forced to note the multitude of publications, headings, supports, etc., presented in an anarchic way. At most, here and there, we find two hearts entwined and crowned. But frankly not much more. We want to give this unity in the various presentations and representations of our Fraternity. Little by little, the various elements that make up this public image are being put in place.
It took a lot of thinking to get there, but the realization is very slow !!! It is perfectly normal that every work and publication of the Fraternity expresses this unity of style. Again, it is absolutely not about changing anything of our ideas and principles. Knowing that ideas among men need to be embodied, one must be particularly careful not to distort the message because of a false external image.
The scope of the unity pursued is vast: it affects not only the websites, which must all be aligned with the model already existing in many districts and at the General House, but also the publications on paper, the headings of our official letters, etc., everything related to our public image.
The two fundamental elements are the two Hearts, represented very soberly and some details of which are reproduced in watermark, at least on the first pages and covers. To this is added our title, also very sober, FSSPX or SSPX for English, with the whole title, marked in smaller.
A font of a special character has been chosen. It is required for all official documents, including districts and seminars.
We preferred to follow a slow process so as not to waste the work that had just been undertaken in some districts, but now we ask everyone to respect this decision and not to wait any longer for its execution.
Non disputandum coloribusque gustibus. We fully understand that these changes will not please everyone. Because not everyone has the same tastes. We believe, however, that the unity of the representative image of the Society cannot be left to the initiative of everyone; it is part of our common heritage and must be respected by all.
With the month of January, we began the preparations for the next Chapter, the most important event of this year for the Fraternity. As previous Chapters have shown that the material discussed took more than the time we had planned, we have decided to almost double its duration. This Chapter is not only important because of the renewal of the head of the Society with the elections it implies. The disposition and examination of our internal life and the preservation of all aspects of our statutes and the spirit of our Founder are at least as important, and even more so. I invite you all to pray well for these great intentions now.
As far as current developments in the Church are concerned, they are obviously of great concern to us. How far will the good Lord allow confusion, chaos in doctrine and morality? We really touch the mystery of the Church in its most painful part: the death of souls induced by those who, by divine right, must answer before God. Many very serious questions are raised. Let us be careful not to decide them by solutions that would be inspired more by indignation or passion than by the spirit of faith. Confusion forces us to be very careful in our decisions.
In this regard, at the end of last year we received official confirmation from the new Prefect of the Congregation of the Faith, Monsignor Ladaria, of what we were announcing to the superiors in Fatima: Rome obviously went backwards on key points of the doctrinal basic text, namely on the profession of faith to be asked of the members of the Fraternity, on the acceptance of the Council - leaving open, however, and in a rather broad way the discussion of the Council and of the post-conciliar reforms, notably of the new Canon Law and of the liturgy - and finally imposing the acceptance of the legitimacy of the liturgical reforms. The conjunction of this step backwards and developments on moral questions with the permission of communion to those in irregular matrimonial situations invite us to be even more reserved in our relations. It is very difficult for us to foresee what the Pope is preparing for us this year. Many rumors are circulating, and very few things are confirmed. This also explains why we remain very cautious in our statements on this situation so unstable and dangerous for any Catholic.
Let us lift up our souls to the Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and trusting in their almighty mercy, we commend you all to their benevolent protection. Let us take advantage of the time of Lent's graces to renew our spirit, to purify and sanctify ourselves, "so that all may be holy.
Deign Our Lady, cum prole pia, to bless you all.
